Padang a la Ubud

My first real Indonesian meal was padang, the mixed plate that I had in the night market in Sanur. So when Leena and Nick suggested we hit up a good Ubud version of the same, I was all ears. We headed to Puteri Minang in the eastern part of Ubud. Luckily, there was a lovely cardboard person to let us know we had arrived.

Padang is basically lots of pre-cooked stuff, from which you pick what you want with rice. This place was neat because it was full of really interesting dishes, lots of which had seafood.

I went a little overboard with my ordering and ended up with a whole fish, another fillet, a stuffed squid (back right), a potato cake, some water spinach, and sambal. It was all very tasty and the sambal, as at padang in Sanur, was spicy. The marinade on the whole fish was interesting, a mix of spices and tomatoes. The stuffed squid was a fun set of bites, stuffed with more squid and with vegetables. Very chewy, as you might expect.
