About two-thirds of the way through the Tarsus trip and it was clear we needed a blast of sugar. Luckily, the local baklavaria was not far away.
We got a mixed plate of various baklava, all with different compositions of dough, pistachio, and honey. The pistachio log, while tempting, proved not to be the best as it was a little dry. The title of best of the plate went to the unsuspecting normal-shaped baklava in the lower right, which was oh so good. It got a close-up as a victory prize.
At the same joint, a group of five men came in, ordered a massive plate of these baklava, a side of Turkish ice cream, and some cay. They polished it all off in about five minutes, probably putting away eight pieces of baklava apiece. Nicely done, gents.
We should have a baklava eating competition - confident I'd be a contender.
ReplyDeleteUmmm, I'll take you up on that.
