Tucked away near the Spice Bazaar, the small Rustem Pasa mosque was a find. On the second floor with lots of first floor retail shops, the entrances are through small spiral staircases on each of the corners. Once inside, though, the grandeur of the place becomes apparent.
The interior had been covered head to toe in blue Iznik tiles. The painting on the tiles was superb. In addition, a large chandelier holding many dozens of candles descended from the dome to about ten feet high, making the mosque much more intimate.
I sat in there for a good 30 minutes and could have sat for more. Such a peaceful place.
I found outside an electronic signboard providing helpful information on when the next call to prayer (of five each day) would be.
Thanks to Jen for the tip that this mosque would be worth going to!
