Hot bread, times two

Supper on Friday night would be had at a street fair. I headed to Bebek with a bunch of friends for the third annual summer festival in the waterfront park. A row of food stands were cranking out all of the street food classics. I settled on gozleme, a grilled stuffed pancake.

The individual pieces of dough were rolled out to incredibly large circles. They were bigger than the table on which they were rolled! After rolled, they were filled with various ingredients, including potatoes, mushrooms, and onions.

The gozleme, when wrapped, looks like a big burrito. Due to a miscommunication, mine sadly was only stuffed with potatoes. It was tasty though, very warm and very crisp. Seemed to be a solid though not spectacular version of something that could be fantastic. I would very much like to try this with different fillings and from different vendors.

My friend (and fellow world-traveler) Rani got a yarim kofte, essentially a meatball sandwich on french bread. The kofte meatballs were excellent, seasoned well, grilled well, and still juicy. She made a better choice than I...
