Return of the mangosteen

Surprise of surprises, mangosteens, those glorious tropical fruits, can be found in Turkey.

Thanks to Regina for spotting this fruit and delivering it to a traveler still confused about where East Asia went. And, inspired by the return of the mangosteen, another ode:

Littlest of fruits
Well, not that little
You are bigger than a grape, and a cherry too
Sometimes you even outsize an apricot, lucky you

You hide a ton of flavor in your little white segments
Hidden underneath the purple husk
You go on long walks, and disappear from view
I thought I lost you back on the islands

But you came back, you came back
You home like a pigeon
And always find my mouth

This time, the park would be your last stop
The grass was fine
The weather fantastic
And your ride with a friend brief and lovely

A quick peel and your hemispheres parted
With your stem intact
You went around the circle of us
One piece gone, then another
Until at least you were down to your final segment
Of course, we couldn't stop there
And so that was it, that was how
We ate you
