Very fresh meatballs on top of a hill

Having summited the mini-peak, it was time for some grub. The Lonely Planet Istanbul raved and raved about this cafeteria, lamenting how far away from Istanbul it was. They hit the target with their recommendation. Go to Yucetepe Kir Gazinosu should you find yourself on these islands.

Dish one was a delightful batch of fresh veggies in the form of a shepherd's salad. Tomatoes, onions, and parsley mixed with a handful of olives and a light olive oil dressing. The produce was so fresh, nicely cut, and the perfect thirst quencher. The parsley added a good kick of herb and the olives were expertly marinated. i was hoping this bowl was bottomless.

Dish two was a simple-as-pie plate of kofte, tomatoes, and a pepper. The kofte were the best I've had so far. Little happy bunches of mixed meat, some great spices, a quick turn on the grill, these were excellent. I paced myself so I could savor them. this is how meat should taste. The tomatoes and (spicy!) pepper provided a nice meat interlude every now and then.

Completing these two wonderful dishes was a bottle of Efes pilsner. So good after a long hike on a hot day. And this eatery had the views to match!
