Little desserts make a long walk possible

Breakfast had taken us fairly far north, along the Bosphorus coast. Our journey back was on foot and, along the way, there were plenty of opportunities to snack on delicious Turkey sweets.

The first pit stop was a highly reputable ice cream shop, called Mini Dondurma, that served dondurma. Turkish ice cream is very viscous and even a little gummy. The dondurma shop guys have crowbars that they use to pick up the batch of ice cream, stretch it out, and put it back in its container. I got a mix of pistachio and a local berry, similar to a blackberry. It was scrumptious, chewy and refreshing.

Next I simply had to try some of the many Turkish snack sweets. Our walk back took us through Bebek, a posh neighborhood abutting the coast.

The shop Meshur Bebek Badem Esmezi had just what the doctor ordered. Little badem made of pistachio (green ones) and almond (white ones). A single bite and the blast of nut overwhelms the palate spectacularly. Yum.
